A supplier scorecard is a standardised evaluation sheet that condenses a supplier's performance across several weighted metrics into one comparable picture.
Structure. Dimensions such as quality, on-time delivery, cost, service and compliance. Per dimension, metrics with a target and a weighting, and a total score at the end.
Quantitative and qualitative. A balanced scorecard mixes measured data with evaluator judgement. Pure system values miss the core of the work when it comes to services.
Use. Basis for regular performance reviews, for comparing suppliers in the same category, and for deciding on re-engagement.
Pitfalls. Too many metrics. A weighting that does not fit the category. A score with no comment explaining why. An evaluation the supplier never sees, so nothing follows from it.
For services. Weighting shifts from delivery data to outcome, collaboration and team continuity.
