The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) is the EU's first comprehensive AI regulation, in force since 1 August 2024, with staggered obligations.
Timeline. Prohibited practices since 2 February 2025. General-purpose AI rules since 2 August 2025. Article 50 transparency since 2 August 2026.
Delay to high-risk obligations. Digital Omnibus (Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, since 27 July 2026): Annex III to 2 December 2027, Annex I to 2 August 2028.
What counts as high-risk. Biometric identification, critical infrastructure, employment management — supplier selection is not listed.
